Welcome to the website of Professor Reza Shahbazian-Yassar’s research group at the University of Illinois Chicago!

We specialize in fundamental and nanoscale studies of materials for electrochemical energy storage. Our current research focuses on advanced materials and nanostructures for electrical energy storage, nanoelectronics, and healthcare applications.

We use in-situ characterization techniques to understand complex multi-physics problems at the nanoscale. Our research group pioneers the development and utilization of in-situ battery testing holders in Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM) to visualize the battery reactions during charge/discharge in real time with an unprecedented resolution.
